Petersburg Book Fest Returns for Year Two at Virginia State University
The Petersburg Book Fest is officially returning for its second year – and this year’s celebration is set to be even bigger.
Hosted by Resist Booksellers, the 2026 Petersburg Book Fest will take place on Friday, September 11 through Saturday, September 12 at Virginia State University, bringing together readers, authors, educators, creators, and families for a dynamic celebration of books, literacy, and culture.
Following a successful inaugural festival in 2025, the Petersburg Book Fest continues its mission of creating a space where storytelling, creativity, and community can thrive together. What began as a bold vision to establish a literary destination in Petersburg has quickly grown into a regional event that celebrates diverse voices while connecting people through the power of books.
This year’s expanded two-day festival will feature:
- Author talks and panel discussions
- Book signings and meet-and-greets
- Children’s storytime and family programming
- Interactive literary activities
- Independent publishers and vendors
- Local food and community partners
- Cultural conversations centered on literacy and storytelling
As a Black-owned independent bookstore, Resist Booksellers remains committed to making literature accessible while uplifting authors and stories that reflect the richness of our communities.
“Petersburg deserves a space that celebrates books while honoring the richness of our stories and culture,” said Demetrius Frazier, founder of Resist Booksellers and organizer of the Petersburg Book Fest. “The festival continues to grow as a place where families, readers, and writers can come together to share ideas, discover new voices, and build community through literacy.”
Additional details about featured authors, programming, and community partnerships were announced during an official press conference taking place on Tuesday, March 31 at the Resist Booksellers Petersburg location.
The Petersburg Book Fest is free and open to the public.
